Okay this is a little off the home network Security theme however it is vitally important. You will often get e-mails, especially when using low quality services like hotmail, AOL etc (hint use Gmail, it’s far superior), that claim to be from a leading bank or online site like eBay. These e-mails are generally just like the ones you would get from these companies including graphics and everything. However they are not from these companies!
The e-mail’s normally say that for security reasons or whatever they need you to fill in all your details on their site, however the site they direct you to is really a bogus site most of the time that has been hacked by the hacker in order to make it look like the site belonging to the company in question.
You should never click on the links in these e-mail’s as providing such information would be giving it directly into the hands of hackers!
Most of the time you can tell right away when you put your mouse over the link in the e-mail as you will see that the dress in your web browser’s status bar shows a URL with a domain name that is not of the company in question. However even if it is not the case tread carefully.
Properly managing home network Security with the right home network security software is something that not everybody has gotten used to just yet, this is understandable being that it is something relatively new. Nevertheless it is not really all that complicated to get yourself set up securely so make sure you take the effort.
